Default Who wants my Medieval Swashbuckler??

Hi everyone. I'm unrepped but I've got a great script here (and not just my Mom said so!) I've done re-write after re-write from plenty of feedback. It's been an obsession to get it as perfect as I can.

I know the period movie genre is a tough sell, so that's why I'm asking for help. I've queried a lot of managers, and got too many "sounds great, but not for us" responses.

Can anyone point me in the direction of an agent or producer that might be looking for something like this, and may want to take a look at my script?

Knights? Vikings? Villians? Anyone?

Thanks!

You might try some competitions as well. A friend of mine got management representation after his script won a genre screenplay competition. It might be a way to get noticed and could open some doors.

If the script isn't selling, you can always use it as a tool to sell yourself.

Write 4-7 more scripts and then get start looking for representation.

Writing one script is a bit like taking an introductory class in college. You're just beginning to learn. As of now, you don't have enough experience to even realize how much you don't know.

The first question you'll be asked by a manager is "what else ya got?" They want to represent a writer and a career - not a script.

I'll pass. Good luck with your script and writing career. But it is not a good fit for us at this time...

Lol...

Get used to hearing variations of this.

yeah - it's the standard -- "the check's in the mail" line but for film industry queries.

And it's based on a true story. Never before been on screen. It would make a great summer blockbuster movie!! Okay, so my enthusiasm is not rubbing off....

I guess you've heard it all before.

Yes, but that last sentence makes you four million and eight times more credible than the other posters.

Thank you.

I'd like to hit up producers and reps who've been involved in similar movies. Hopefully they enjoyed the experience so much (and made money) that they can't wait to do it again!

How do I best use the HCD for this? Should I sign up for the Representation or Production directory?

Who was your feedback from? That's crucial; if it was from friends, or people who don't know too much about screenwriting, it may not be worth much.

It's your first script. Much like sex, your first effort probably isn't the best you're capable of. Not to say it's impossible to kill it the first time out, but usually it takes a few times to really get the hang of it. Also, much like sex, you shouldn't get too hung up on your first time. Don't obsess too much, and start to experiment with other stuff. You don't want to be a one-trick pony who has one story to tell.

Also, much like sex, writing will often leave you emotionally drained, curled up in the fetal position and weeping while voices in your head castigate you for being weak and worthless.

But maybe that's just me.

Cynicide, I haven't had that experience with sex...

It's been reviewed by a bunch of screenwriters with a lot of experience. I go to a group.

It's not my first script, but it is the most marketable.

I'm already outlining my next one.
