Post Production Company Response Times

Although I've been submitting fiction and nonfiction to magazines for years, I'm pretty new at submitting screenplays, and I was wondering how long, generally, it takes for a production company to respond with either a 'yes' or 'no.'
Magazines (at the ones to which I submit) usually take 3 to 6 months. I'm hoping production companies are faster. I was given the go-ahead to submit a script to three production companies and was just wondering if anyone knew approximately how long it'll take before I get an answer.
Thanks,
Maureen

Well, from my experience anywhere from 6 mos-never!

I think a lot can depend on how busy the production company is and as most companies have readers, it depends on how many scripts they've already got in their pile.

As boski said. And I always follow up with a short, to-the-point e-mail about every month after submitting if they haven't gotten to my script until they tell me they absolutely loved my script but it's a pass.

Don't be too discouraged. Many aspiring screenwriters never even get read.

When I fail to get a response after my script has been requested, I try to think of two things:

The first, they may have received 50 scripts that day and mine just happens to be at the bottom of the stack....and behind several other stacks. Could take months.

Secondly, maybe they've already read it, loved it and are secretly shopping it around trying to get folks interested in it. They're not supposed to do this without letting you know, but I'm told it happens.

Never get discouraged until you receive your 100th pass.

Oh, and never stop writing, waiting for the ship to come in.
Script #5 will probably sell before script #2.

It can range from very fast - a week - to well ... over a year, as was the case with Disney - 3 development executives later it was a "pass" - and that was after a face-to-face pitch where the head of dev. said, "these are GREAT ideas". Of course the other common option is zero response. No "Yes", no "No".
