Didn't care for Raimi's trilogy. This film was very enjoyable though. Garfield was so much better than Maguire.

Agreed, Spidey is supposed to be witty not whiny. Maguire was whining personified. Nobody can root for a whining super hero.

Other issue, the love interest needs to actually be attractive, Stone much better than Dunst in this category as well. Dunst was okay, but not exactly pretty enough to believe the hero would risk everything for her. There was a similar problem with 'Dark Knight', the lady that played Rachel was butt ugly compared to Katie Holmes in the previous film. I was kind of looking forward to the Joker killing off the piggy-nosed Rachel. But to risk so much for women that don't look so hot, not really believable, even in comic book/movie world.

Amazing Spiderman was well done, but the world badly needs some new super heroes. Marvel and DC had their day, it's like we skipped a generation when it comes to super hero creation.

I didn't like Raimi's films and this new one just doesn't look interesting. After being burned by the crapfests that are Thor and The Avengers I'm much more cautious about going to superhero films.

True about Maguire and especially true about Kirsten 'I Have a Box Shaped Face' Dunst.

I really liked this movie...

Of course spidey's origin story being retold felt familiar, but it also felt better handled than Raimi's version.

Garfield is exceptional as Peter. Far better than Toby Maguire. Emma Stone is beautiful and Charming as Gwen. And the two have great chemistry together.

My only Gripe was the lizards plot to turn all of New York into Dinosaurs. It felt a little tacked on and needed to be fleshed out more.

But a great effort that has enough going for it to feel fresh.

Am I complete geek that that particular plot point was actually done in the Spider-Man comic (Marvel Team-Up, I think, and the villain was Stegron, though I cannot remember who Spidey teamed up with to defeat him)?

Was it the same villainous plot device in the live action Mario movie??

Nothing is supposed to be. Judge movies in and of themselves. Upon doing that, you will realize the greatness of Spider-Man 1 and the masterpiece that is Spider-Man 2.

F__k the third one. Doesn't exist.
