Default Sending query letters to production companies...

What's the deal with sending query letters to production companies? Is this something that is allowed? Are production companies open to this? And if so, which ones?

Thanks for the help!

Do like everyone else - Query any and all email accounts you have compiled over the years. Agents, Managers, Production Companies, Lawyers with that one script sale, etc.

not really everybody else... but some.

there are ways of finding out how people want to be queried and who will work with new writers and what kind of material they are presently working for. if you do your research and get some memberships* to different sites you can widdle down the number of queries and hit your best chances first.

It's certainly worth while to query production companies. Some are absolutely closed to writers, a very few admit they're open to queries, and a large number in the middle say they're closed but will read something if they like the query. Just write to Creative Execs and producers who have done stuff in your area. Prodco's are less accessible than managers but - in my experience - much more accessible than agents.

It really all depends on what your peddling and to who.

If your an unproduced, unrepped nobody that just wrote what you believe will be the next epic film, but it requires 150 million in budget... Well you probably will never get a sniff from anyone that can actually help you.

If your sending out a low budget Rom Com or Horror, it certainly pays to know who cranks that genre regularly and to query them.
