Default Cloud Atlas Trailer

Here's an international 5 minute trailer for Cloud Atlas.

I've never read the book. It bares a slight resemblance to the film 'The Fountain' by Darren Aronosky.

The cut of the trailer certainly gives the film an epic tone... Great music, and Narration throughout... And the imagery is stunning... But we all know how a trailer can be misleading. *Cough* Prometheus *Cough*

What does everyone think?

Go read the book. Now. It's probably the one I've gifted for birthdays/Xmas most often in the last 10 years.

I don't think I have the heart to watch the movie though. I've seen five from those guys and not once have I understood what so many people adore in what I experience as self-important, over-pumped and juvenile.

Sh*t looks beautiful. Images are stunning. Has an epic feel. I'm not familiar with the source material, so I need to learn more about the story. But it looks like the Waschowskis dug deep to make some different and thought provoking.

Visually stunning. I agree with the resemblance to THE FOUNTAIN but with a much cooler looking future timeline. Tom Hanks' first futuristic sci-fi?

Looking forward to it.

Interesting concept and execution, it's made my watch list.

In my mind, anything that isn't just another brainless comic book movie is a good thing. There's the hint of some interesting ideas here and trailer is well cut together. It could very well turn out to be pretentious tosh, but we'll see.

So all in all, gets a thumbs up for now.

Early Buzz: ‘Cloud Atlas’ Test Screening Reactions

...Sifting through the responses, a few points seemed to come up repeatedly. Quite a few people praised the Wachowskis and Tykwer’s ability to braid together the different tales, and while all the actors are getting compliments Broadbent’s performance seems to be a particular favorite so far. On the flip side, the gender- and race-switching makeup proved distracting for some folks. Hopefully a little VFX will have solved that by now.

I was sold on one scene. Happens for a mere second (in the trailer), but it's BRILLIANT.

And I wish I thought of it. Because I was going to write a scene between two love interests fleeing arrow-shots on a bridge for my latest draft of a script I'm working on. But now.... it'll just seem inferior whatever I come up with.

In the future timeline, the two lovers are trapped on a narrow metal bridge device between two buildings. No way to escape a shot down the line--

--Except they link hands. And lean outwards. Both taking the weight. Each responsible for the other's life. And the shot goes through the gap between.

BRILLIANT! I'll watch it on that scene alone. Hoping that the rest of the movie lives up to little set pieces like that.
