How screwed are you if you sign releases to get your work read?

The detail of answer kinda depends on the reason for the question. If you are considering suing a prodco then you need legal advice. If you are asking if this is standard operating procedure for a prodco before reading an unrepped, unknown [to them] writer, then yes it is.
