Very true. I'm not sure I trust the Michigan government, considering how bad its economy is right now. They may do drastic things...

O.K., but were you agreeing that it matters if the writer is a Michigan resident?

After that he gave me a little bit of info on the company and its goals year per year, how many films they were looking to produce each year, budget range, etc....

When I left he was still willing to read it (at least that's what he told me), so I am assuming I didn't make a total ass of myself. Said to give them a week to review the script.

And that was that, all in all, I was there about 20 minutes.
Thanks for letting us know how it went. So many of these threads go on for pages and then after "the event" the O.P. never posts again.

Not saying this is or is not the case because i am pretty sure michigan's economy is the worst in the country right now, but it would really suck for the producer since he relocated his entire company to michigan...

Why would he do that? Aren't incentives in place to entice outside productions to bring their business to the state?

Congrats on scoring the meeting, by the way.

I dont know how the film incentive exactly applies...

But it is not isolated to outside productions coming to michigan, it applies to all production aspects that take place in michigan above a certain amount...

But i also expect more smaller prod companies opening up here during the course of this year.

The studio "Hanger42", which from what i understand now holds the largest sound stage in the world just opened like 2 weeks ago in grand rapids, michigan. And Raleigh Michigan Studios is scheduled to open some time this year to i believe...

Corporations are setting everything in place so that films can be done in michigan from beginning to end, and with the 42% tax credit available (whether they can make good on it or not), smaller run production outfits can easily make homes in michigan and possible reap huge benefits from it.

I remember Hemingway's "Up In Michigan".

Rough rough rough.

that's b/c most meetings still go no where. even if you sell a pitch well enough to get a meeting if the writing doesn't deliver then they usually don't call... just like a query.
i thought that $25 parking ticket i paid to beverly hills (like they really needed my money) was a good sign that the meeting would... well, it didn't happen. lol!

I've been told the majority of newbie meetings go nowhere until you make your first sale, or perhaps, rank high on the Black List.
