  • Any legal issues with sending coverage samples?

Just about everybody who is looking for script readers asks for coverage samples. Is that okay though? Coverage is usually a pretty detailed description of what a story is about. Is there some risk then of the idea being taken and therefore consent breached if the coverage is sent without the permission of the writer (or if there was no contract to begin with, is there nothing saying the coverage can't be shared)? Do you usually ask the writer for permission to use the coverage as a sample? I've never really thought about it.

There probably are legal issues that arose via the confidentiality agreement you may sign with said company... That said script readers are asked for samples all the time, and it's done and understood they are purely samples. If you're really worried blank out the company name, writers name etc.
