  • Movies with deluded protagonists?

***There MIGHT be spoilers here for folks who haven't seen some classic movies, so stay away if that might be you!***

I'm trying to think of examples of movies with deluded protagonists - specifically where the big reveal in the end is that much of their experience was an illusion.

    Fight Club
    A Beautiful Mind
    Memento

Those come to mind. Anyone else have suggestions?

    Thanks!
    Ben

Shutter Island. I think. Haven't seen it yet though.

Usual Suspects, sort of. But that's more about being told a fabricated story. I'm looking more for mental delusion as seen from the protagonist's POV.

Check out Spider by David Cronenberg. If you haven't seen it, I'm not really spoiling much. It's a really interesting movie.

I think some of you have the wrong idea about what the OP is looking for because he used the word "deluded." But as he said, he's looking for films where the protag's world is revealed to be an illusion.

Others would be Jacob's Ladder and Secret Window. Depp was superb in that one.

The Devil's Advocate---at least because of that tacked-on ending at the courthouse. (It was all a dream.)

The first act of the Matrix. Though I guess that wouldn't count as "at the end".

Worth checking out the film "Griff the Invisible". It's a story like "Kick-Ass" .. except our superhero has invented an invisibility suit.

I would give a spoiler warning , but it seems a bit late given the topic of the thread ...

Donnie Darko, Sucker Punch, Mulholland Drive, Inception

The original Total Recall might also count depending on your criteria.
