First off, a nod to mlongton for mentioning THE END. That is one bizarre, darkly funny mostly forgotten movie.

So many scenes, I can't remember them all and some of the below aren't even really funny scenes, just funny acting.

*A mohawked Travis Bickle repeatedly shaking his head after chasing a pill with what I imagine was very warm beer in Taxi Driver.

*Woody Allen mockingly laughing at the bore Alan Alda during dinner in Crimes and Misdemeanors.

*Practically any of the lines by the drill sargeant in Full Metal Jacket.

*Practically any of the lines by Bill Paxton in Aliens (he should've won an Oscar for that performance).

*The Gub scene in Woody Allen's Take the Money and Run.

*The Dictator scene in Woody Allen's Bananas (the part where he decrees everyone must change their underwear every hour and wear them outside of their clothes so that we can check).

*About anything in Borat.

Sorry. I ignored every rule in this thread.

The thing about comedy is that it's probably not going to be that funny out of context, but I'm going to link to specific clips anyway. Because it's the morning, and I don't want to start working yet.

In no particular order (despite the fact that I inexplicably numbered them):

1. Kids in the Hall - "Daddy Drank" - One of my favorite comedy sketches of all time. Speaks for itself.

2. The Three Amigos! - I can't find a YouTube clip for this, unfortunately, but the scene where the Three Amigos all realize that they aren't acting in some elaborate play and are, in fact, facing down with a Mexican gang is pretty great. They realize the truth and then all immediately start crying.

3. Shaun of the Dead - "The Plan" - All of "Shaun" is pretty great, but this scene is definitely one of my favorites. The happy-as-can-be look on everyone's faces during the montages kills me every time.

4. Army of Darkness - "This is my BOOMSTICK!" - I've always felt that the character of Ash is one of the best achievements in the horror genre in the last thirty years. By the time we get to "Army," which is a full blown horror comedy, Raimi's direction coupled with Ash's "I would give anything to not be in this stupid movie right now" attitude combine into something pretty special.

5. The Jerk - "He Hates These Cans!" - It's hard to pick a favorite scene, as "The Jerk" is one of the best comedies ever made. But if you have to go with one, you're probably going to go with this.

HONORABLE MENTION:

The Simpsons 5.01 - "Cape Feare" - Sideshow Bob stepping on rake after rake is pretty masterful. It goes on for so uncomfortably long that it goes from being funny, to not funny, to funny again. I had never quite seen a joke do that before. As far as the clip itself goes, obviously it's better in the context of the full episode, which also happens to be one of the best episodes of that show's run.

Hot Fuzz - "Here Come the Fuzz" - Two of my favorite jokes ever are in this scene. The first is the payoff to a running joke in the whole movie, where Pegg has finally "switched off his brain" and in turn has devolved into an action hero, to the point where he's literally speaking on one-word sentences like "...idea!" (Unfortunately not in the YouTube clip). The second is the setup to a joke where there's an awkward silence where he should have a one-liner after defeating a bad guy, only to have a conversation about that very fact a few seconds later.

I just watched this again recently and Paxton is freaking brilliant at that character and it's amazingly written. For one, he's obviously a buffoon to some extent and a bit of a coward, but he's also a badass marine that can perform well if given proper guidance. Amazing, classic character that will stand the test of time.

Pretty much anything in Spinal Tap. The 18 inch henge is probably one of the funniest things I ever saw on film... besides Twilight.

Naked hotel room wrestling in Borat. I literally thought I was going to die of laughter the first time I saw it.

No love for the "I'll have what she's having" scene in When Harry Met Sally?

That's my favourite, off the top of my head.

Plus a whole bevy of choices from Monty Python - Life of Brian in particular. (Not The Meaning of Life though, which never worked for me.)

Dang! THE MEANING OF LIFE is my favorite Monty Python movie.

And this is my favorite scene from it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aclS1pGHp8o

(Warning: could be disturbing for those with an aversion to uncomfortable and gory stuff.)
