    77 posts on this thread... okay so, it's reached a point i can make a non-hw guess and possibly be as right as anyone here...


    i think what makes an award-winning script is one in which the writer has taken the known tools of the craft; and both effectively, and creatively, used them in a way that shed's light on the human condition.

        Indeed, but that wasn't the question, which was "What makes a great script? Perhaps an award winning script?"

        Could one not go back and review Oscar winning scripts over the past 20, 30 years and not distill from them the ingredients they presented that propelled them to their wins? Politics aside, of course.

        Could one not peruse the AFI's list of the top 100 features and do the same thing with their scripts?

        Both seem to be plausible approaches to answering the question, even tho the question itself seems a bit misguided in that the definition of "greatness" will always be problematic and differ to one degree or another from person-to-person.
