Default Producer Question?

How long should you wait before following up with a producer? In my case it has been three weeks.

Depends on the producers. If it's a small company they probably should have read it by now. In that case it's a pass. If it's a big place you may or may not ever hear from them. In the past I would sometimes send an email "just checking to see if the script made it through cyberspace". Usually I got an answer. Yes but we're busy or it's not right for us. I no longer inquire. I just let nature take its course.

Good to know. What about if it is somewhere in the middle. The studio is not huge but it is not small. They have done a feature for 12 million. They now have 30 million dollars available. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. All he could say is he wasn't interested. I think that I will give him one more week.

Turns out I am getting ahead of myself. It has only been 16 days which is two weeks. Next week will be three weeks. I got confused since the event was on May 29-30. I mailed it right away and he responded on June 2.

If you've reached the point you're counting days, you should probably read this ... http://www.wordplayer.com/columns/wp44.Never.Wait.html

I followed up after two-three weeks. Luckily I got a "yes, I like your script, let's meet next week" response.

Some companies really do get backed up, and it can take a couple of months.

You could touch base in a month. At least you'll know for certain.
