Default Mysterious email. What would you do?

This is unusual. I received an email from a gmail address purporting to be from a real production company, referencing a script I've had on the BlackList site for a couple of years. I'd actually forgotten it was on there.

The email says they'd "love to check out" my script. There's no other real info on the email, no sig information other than the sender's name. Ordinarily, I'd think it to be spam, but there's a CC to an actual email address that appears to legitimately be their director of acquisitions according to IMDB and Deadline.

How would you respond?

What's the downside of sending it?

You're kidding, right? He could sell it and make millions. Then spend it all on partying, drugs, hookers, etc. Then he'll be out of money and kicking and screaming at himself for ever getting involved in this awful business. He'll be at the end of his rope when yet another e-mail sent from someone who also read the first script, and loved it, begs to read more of his work and then buys that work also, for even more millions. Starting the whole painful process all over again.

That's what worried me - I can't think of a downside. I've always been wary of things that look too good to be true.

I vote give the script a scan for typos (because you know you'll find some) and send it off.

Good luck!

Hard to believe you can't find some backgrounder on LinkedIn, imdBpro, Google, etc.

Take his email address, put it in the search bar, make sure there are " (quotes) around it so it's a literal search, and hit <Enter>. Even @gmail.com, etc. often show up on websites for conferences, people who've posted resumes with references that identify the company, etc.

You don't really know who's on BlackList these days as "producers" or whatever. The info is behind the proprietor's security wall, isn't it? I don't know. I've never been on it due to the $$$'s

Someone wants to read your script. Send it.

I'd send the script as a direct reply to the original email from the gmail address, and include the original email, and CC (not BCC) it to that production company's director of acquisition's legitimate address.
