  • Wolf Creek

Caught this flick on TV the other day right when the kids were picked up by the stranger.

I thought it was pretty good as far as horror movies go. At least it didn't have the typical Hollywood happy ending.

    Thoughts?

Although it has the benefit of actually trying to develop (although only somewhat) its characters, it ultimately becomes just another mediocre entry in this torture porn-esc sub-genre.

      You really didn't miss anything.

I liked the one female character who lasted the longest, even though she did make one or two idiotic decisions.

Overall, it's not bad. There are far worse horror films out there today.

This "true- story is told from the guy's perspective, I think he just killed the two girls and made the whole thing up.

I liked it alright. It didn't 'wow' me like some people said it would, but I thought it was a great effort for a $1 million dollar film.

Good tension level, but still too predictable in terms of a misogynistic force of antagonism.

Holy Crow...how do you do the spoiler thingy? I haven't been able to figure that one out on this board...

As far as Wolf Creek...I don't generally go in for that type of horror film (the serial killer schtick), but it delivered for me for the most part. The first half hour or so of character development was a little weak, and the odd paranormal sub-plot had me scratching my head, but the last part was pretty gruelling.

Overall, though, it seemed like a forty-five minute movie padded out to feature length. But then, so are most movies anymore.

I liked it because it didn't have any illusions about what it was. It didn't try to pass itself off as something really clever and inventive like Saw and sequals.

Just highlight the text you want to invis and change the color to white, there is a button next to the font and size with an and a black line under it, click that and change it to white.

                  Like so

Since I missed the first part, was there any indication in the character development that maybe the boy had a violent streak in him, where he could've done it all along?

No, as far as I recall, that was an option that wasn't really brought to the table.

                      And thanks, Slappy!

                        Re: Wolf Creek

It was a $1 million budget with about $2 million dollars of favours borrowed on top of it. Rumours are that Greg McLean had a lot of friends defer payment, particularly in post. He'd made some shorts before and was reasonably well known in the local industry, so he was able to call in favours. A LOT of favours.

Estimates I've heard (from people indirectly, or vaguely involved) are that it was closer to a $3million film if everyone had been paid upfront.

Anyway, Rogue is being made for a full budget - he's got real money this time. Not sure it will live up though.

                          Re: Wolf Creek

We rented it & i walked out of the room. ZZZZZZZZ...

I thought it was so boring. Very flat, nothing happens for the longest time, minimal character dev. That's just bad writing.

Why would i want to stick around to watch boring char ride thru the outback for 45 min only to be tortured & killed by some inbred psycho?

                          That's not entertaining to me.

Give me a real story w/ interesting char, & w/ some intelligence behind it.

                            Re: Wolf Creek

Dismissing the villain as being just some inbred type is selling the piece short...I liked what they did with the character. He came across as just another rough-around-the-edges type you might end up sitting next to in any truck stop in the world, and not even suspect that something like "head on a stick" is percolating just beneath the surface.

That the character had found a way to rationalize it was an interesting tweak that brought Wolf Creek up a couple of notches over most of the other stuff in the genre, what with some unstoppable masked force picking off the teens 'cause they like to do the nasty.

It took the Crocodile Dundee stereotype everyone outside of Australia expects and inverted it, while still maintaining a bit of that weird charm. That attention to character detail is very rarely touched on in these kind of films.

OK, that guy was kinda interesting & had a couple of funny lines. But...

I still think they could have done way more w/ this. Someone said earlier that it felt like a padded short film, & i agree. There just wasn't enough story there for me.
