I had some interaction with Zach Tann a little over a year ago. I cold e-queried him and he requested the script. Passed but was very professional. I also know creativexec is a big Bob Sobhani fan, another Magnet manager. They have a good rep for taking on and breaking new writers. Go for it.

Just out of curiousity... how long did it take them to get back to ya, Joe?

Submitted to magnet august 28th, 2006.

Got an offer of representation from another firm early sept.

Let all other managers who had the script know that i got the offer - they all said they would read ASAP

heard from zach/magnet 2 days later....

said he enjoyed the read but didn't feel passionate enough or whatever

i landed on my feet

Any new writer who signs with Magnet should consider himself/herself one lucky bastard.

My partner has known and worked with them for years. A super high quality boutique management/productions firm. Chris Mills over there is a really cool guy.

Finally got my rejection e-mail. grrr, damn the concept of commercialism!

Here's the letter:

We read your script and although I thought it was really strong at points, the subject matter is a little too dark and unrelatable for us to work with right now. When we take on new writers we not only look for some good writing, but also a script that we can sell in the current marketplace and truthfully, a Vietnam vet thriller piece is a tough one.

We appreciate what you guys did with the story and the characters and really believe that you'll be able to find a place for your script, or, perhaps your next script.

Good luck in the future with your writing.

Thanks,

I need a drink!

Lips, just a suggestion.

Have that drink...then email Bob back thanking him for the insight into how projects are finding the current marketplace.

Then let him know your next one feels like it's gonna fall right in line, and how much you'd value his thoughts on it.
