Here's a link that gives more information on the The Mark from back in 1999. The link for The Mark in wikipedia links to the wrong movie with the same title (one from 1961).

I wonder if Joe Eszterhas lights cigarettes with pages of his scripts at parties. Cause those pages are bling!

Didn't ya hear? Ol' Joe's become an ardent anti-smoke crusader since his brush with throat cancer.

That would explain why I saw him hugging Rob Reiner at a campfire the other night.

                $3 million:
                1. Basic Instinct by Joe Eszterhas
                2. Medicine Man by Tom Schulman
                3. The Ugly Americans by Alec Berg, David Mandel & Jeff Schaffer
Holy crap! Basic Instinct and Eurotrip cost the same? I would have put the entire budget for Eurotrip at $3M. I love the film and the script does have it's moments but still...

dam, i wonder how long it took each writer to write the script.

At the bottom of the linked page, I clicked on unproduced scripts.

It's amazing how many millions are spent on scripts that are never produced.

It's astonishing. Most of the scripts turned out to be **** movies or have never been made. What a ****ed up system.

Thanks for the heads up on the unproduced scripts link, SC. From there:
The Ultimatum by Laurence Dworet and Robert Roy Pool
Described by Steven Spielberg as one of the three most exciting scripts he had ever read, but bogged-down by endless rewrites.
This just makes me want to quit right now. The most succesful director/producer of the last thirty years rates this in his top three, and it still couldn't get made!?

If Joe Eszterhas writes another script, he'll be able to buy his own space ship.

Imagining a pitch meeting with Eszterhas.

                              Eszterhas..."I have this idea --"

                              Producer..."One million!"

Eszterhas..."It's about this girl and her dog searching for a way back to Kansas from a magical kingdom--"

                              Producer..."It's been done before...Two million!"

                              Eszterhas..."Yeah, but I haven't done it."

                              Producer..."Three million!"
