  • Management Rankings

Been a while since somebody did this, and I'm sure things have changed. But it may be good to have a list. Of the larger management companies, which have the most pull? Anyone care to hazard a list so they can hear how wrong they are from everyone else?

...Dude. You just defined every discussion on the internet, ever. Well done.

Now, if someone would call someone else a Nazi, we're all done here.

        Re: Management Rankings

I was being serious, so I guess I'll hazard how I see it shaking down, at least in the top tier(s)

        1. Management360
        2. Mosaic
        3. The Gotham Group
        4. Principato/Young
        5. Industry Entertainment
        6. Benderspink

3 Arts should be in there. I know they're great with talent/comedians just not sure lit.-wise

3-Arts would be pretty high up. They have some giant lit clients and giant stars.

Anonymous Content might also be up there depending on how we're ranking things.

              Re: Management Rankings

In no particular order, other than when they pop into my head...

COC, Film Engine, Energy, Manage-ment, Anonymous, Industry, Benderspink, 360, Mosaic, 3 Arts, Principato Young, Brillstein, etc

I mostly think of the names of what managers are there and how well they do. I can't speak on the size and pull they have in the industry.

Just curious were you suggesting they should be among the top or were you just throwing a few names in the hat that hadn't been mentioned? Haven't noticed any big name talent in lit from them is why I asked.

FYI this is film deals per management company as per DDP (1997-present).

                      Benderspink 225
                      Principato Young 146

                      Industry 121
                      Management 360 115
                      Circle of Confusion 109
                      3 Arts 100

                      Gotham 92
                      Mosaic 83
                      Kaplan Perrone 72
                      Energy 71
                      Underground 58
                      Brillstein 46
                      Evolution 39
                      Madhouse 34
                      Magnet 34
                      Untitled 28
                      Radmin 21
                      Zero Gravity 20
                      Luber Lukdlin 16

I'm sure there are several in the 15-20 range that I forgot. And obviously there are younger companies with less total deals but who are really kicking ass, or boutique places with less total deals (5-15) but some awesome spec sales, so yadayadayada.

                          Re: Management Rankings

Don't judge the perceived success of a management firm by their spec sales. While there's some correlation, the biggest represent clients who are on A and B lists of OWA. And that's where there's consistent work. For many of these large firms, they use spec scripts as a way to introduce a new writer to the marketplace and/or re-introduce a writer in a genre/brand that they are not known for. So for them, selling a spec (while important) is not the end game.

And the biggest ones like 360, Anonymous, Brillstein, etc. have an in-house talent of writers, directors, and actors where they can put together a package. And again, these won't make the trade as spec sales necessarily.

I think the real way to rank managers - one manager from each house goes into the Octogon... and at the end of an hour the only survivor steps out.

This is why I want to be repped by Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris doesn't need to represent writers. He exhales and fully packaged movies simply exist.
