Re: List of free screenwriting competitions?
The Script Lab has this one that's free.
No idea if it's worth it in any way. You might get what you pay for.

From the contest:
"...First impressions are important: For this free competition, all scripts will receive an initial first impression read, consisting of just the first few pages of each script. Your first few pages are especially important because many readers at studios and agencies make a decision about a script based on the first few pages. Please enter your full screenplay, because the screenplays that advance to subsequent rounds will receive full evaluations from our judges..."
This honesty is refreshing. They are telling you, We'll read a page or two and drop kick it to the curb if we don't like it. We owe you nothing!! I like that.Last edited by figment; 05-03-2020, 03:26 PM.

...free screenwriting competitions......free contest info...
It's like:
He'd kill us if he had the chanceHe'd kill us if he had the chance
Well, I don't know about "free contests" (their existence or value), but I was going to respond that it'd be better to look up "open submissions" that various producers have on their websites. I had a big list of about 30, on the old Amazon Studios forum, but it'd be out of date now anyway.
In a VERY QUICK perusal of my own database, here are some. I've submitted to maybe half of these, but I'm paranoid about most of them. Thus, I do not guarantee all of these are legit or even currently open. In other words, caveat emptor! Also, these are listed alpha order, here but are all over the world, geographically. Most let you submit scripts or extracts, but I see that a few sneaked in here that are open to queries only:
Wave Films
Shine / Endemol Australia
Alan Smithee Productions
Amber Crane Media
Animal Mother Films (ulp, temporarily closed)
Archaia Graphic Novels
Bardel Animation
Bee Holder Productions (true stories)
Buck Productions
Carnaby International (films 'in development'? ie. scripts?)
Crazy Legs Productions (for TV)
Arrgh, I don't have time to do all the links. Here are the names/websites:

I know I've said I won't join any more contests, but this one comes across more as a "we are open to script submissions". Those can lead to nothing for anyone, but contests mean (presumably) that somebody will get the decent little $500 payoff.
So long as you ignore the extras, it is free, and since it closes on June 1st the timing is right. I may be in -- with a short script just to try it out.
