  • We have a trailer and release date!

    Hi all,

I'm happy to announce that there's a trailer and release date for a movie I wrote - THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT II: GHOSTS OF GEORGIA. Until recently it was called THE HAUNTING IN GEORGIA, but Lionsgate just made a last-minute title change. Can't say I agree with the change, frankly, but I'm also not one to look a gift horse in the mouth - the movie's hitting theaters, and I'm so proud of how it turned out! Check out the trailer!

Best to you all, and I hope you'll all check out the movie when it comes out February 1.

That looks cool man, congrats. That name change is pretty hilarious, all things considered. "The Haunting in Connecticut in Georgia".

This looks awesomely scary. I've written a Civil War biopic around slavery, so that historical component in your trailer about the Underground Railroad is soooo compelling for me. I can't wait! I will definitely be there at the theater on February 1! Congrats! If you have the time or inclination, could you explain the journey of script to screen on this project, for newbies like me! (Was this a spec, assignment, etc?) If you don't have time or the inclination to do so, I understand.

        Once again, congrats!

Happy to. When HAUNTING IN CT came out and made a small fortune, Gold Circle asked several writers to come up with takes for the follow-up they had in mind, "The Haunting in Georgia" (they had already picked the haunted family in Georgia). I was one of the writers brought in, because I had sold something to Gold Circle earlier that year, and they liked my take enough to give me the job. I was on a plane a week later to interview the family in Georgia. Wrote the script and then made some tweaks with the director they brought on, a great guy named Tom Elkins. Lionsgate/GoldCircle greenlit the movie in late 2010 and we shot in Baton Rouge over 30 days. Post took forever, because the MPAA thought it was too scary for PG-13 and it took several re-cuts to get it there. But I love the finished product.

The new title is wonky, but I'm trying not to let things that are out of my control bother me. Here's hoping it finds an audience!

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's so fascinating to me how the origins of great stories start. Kudos to you for making a great pitch to Gold Circle. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall when interviewing that story. I think this will definitely find an audience. Will do what I can to put butts in seats!

I meant I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when you interviewed that story. The true story element is really fascinating and will bring a flock to theaters. Just like with THE STRANGERS, that film was all the more scary for me because it was "based on a real story."

I meant: Interviewed that family! GOSH -- third times a charm!

First and foremost: congratulations. However, this part scared me:

I'm glad that you're satisfied with the end result, but as an adult, I'd prefer to see something not pared down to cater for children.

That's not an insult to you or the director, merely a statement of truth.

I know people who came out from Taken 2 really p1ssed off because the flick had been edited to get a 12.
Sometimes, men just want to hear a neck go SNAP!

P.S. I'm not saying that horrors have to be gory or contain sex/nudity, by the way.

You'll be relieved to know, then (and I just noticed this myself) that after all that back-n-forth with the MPAA, Lionsgate is releasing the "R" cut, not the PG-13. At least, that's what I'm seeing on the trailer and poster. Who knows if that'll shoot the box-office in the foot, but hey, at least it's the better cut.
