Ugh. This was a stupid idea from the get-go and it just gets worse from here. I mean, remaking an action classic with A+++ actors with... wait, who the f*ck were those actors?
It's like remaking Casablanca with Toby McGuire as Rick Blaine and Emma Stone as Ilsa Lund.
I saw it earlier today and I'm still in shock about how bad it looks. I actually laughed at the whole:
"I believe that these people, like me, are extreme athletes and they are using their skills to disrupt the world's financial markets"
(paraphrased because I don't want to watch it again)
Oh dear. It looks like an absolute travesty as well. Still think there's something to the extreme sport buddhist criminal thing, but looks like its been horribly realised in that trailer.
It's Triple X meets Fast and the Furious!! Seriously though, it looks crappy. And this line: "I believe that like me, the people behind these robberies are extreme athletes".....lol I'm done.
Unless this is a bad cut, they have totally missed the point of the first movie. It was about a washed up agent, with a crazy idea no one wanted to listen to. So they teamed him up with the golden boy no one wanted to work with (no one likes a golden boy rookie). They had to follow their crazy idea on their own, outside of their normal workload while they were trying to prove themselves right.
i think this is a matter of context to be honest. in a short trailer the line comes across as bravado (although it nicely serves the purpose of informing modern audiences who haven't seen the original). but take the line with the story as a whole and it's probably smooth.
i'm actually encouraged by the trailer. i've always liked the original concept, perhaps because i used to hang out with some exreme types. i'm not that crazy but i admire their ability to experience life in a profound way. anyway this is looking pretty good so far, so i'll definitely see it.
