  • Adding a graphic in Final Draft

I recall seeing something on this a while back but my search to find the old thread was fruitless.

I'd like to insert a small graphic into my Final Draft title page -- it's actually the title using a font I want to use in graphic form. (Telling me not to do that is fine, but I'll do it anyway, barring a compelling reason not to.)

Can anyone tell me how to do that? I have a PC if that matters. Thanks!

A title page is relatively easy. FD won't allow you to do it, as you have discovered. But what you do is this...

Create the Title Page in Word. Layout it out as it's "supposed to be." Put the title in the font you want to use or if you like include graphic too. THEN you save that as a PDF file -- it'll be a single page, of course.

Next save your script as a PDF, preferably with out the title page. If you don't have Adobe Pro or something like that, you still should be able to find a free to cheap PDF editing program. You merge the two files and place the title page at the end. Then export that as a PDF.

If my memory serves me, I remember ComicBent posting embedding the font(s) in the document. This makes sure that it will look correctly for someone else looking at it if they don't have that font.

Do a search for "embed font in pdf" on Google and you'll see various results. Look through those some and maybe find the one that makes the most since to you. Probably the safer thing to do UNLESS you create the title in a graphics program and insert it as a image. That should work as a work around to the whole font embed.

    Hope this can help some.

Many thanks. I got as far as making the page a PDF (single page) and my script is in pdf but I'm struggling to merge these. Am I to use a PDF conversion program to merge these two PDFs? I suppose so... I'll keep trying--thanks for getting me closer!

You need, unless someone corrects me, a PDF editing program.

I have not used these but maybe still check them out:

https://www.pdfescape.com/windows/ (Try the free desktop version.)

        http://www.pdfsam.org/

I've always used Adobe Acrobat Pro. (Thank God for the Mrs. and her job.)

Also you could probably search this very forum for merge PDF files and turn up some older posts. Here is at least one about the topic: http://messageboard.donedealpro.com/...ight=merge+pdf

If you get in real trouble, just let me know.

Re: Adding a graphic in Final Draft

Folks, I have been out of town for literally two months and just returned yesterday. (I had to help my mother move back into her rebuilt house after a tornado destroyed it in January, and the contractors suddenly decided to leave a zillion things unfinished or poorly done. What an experience!) I was able to check into DDP only infrequently on my smart phone - no internet access except that way.

Anyway, I am back now. When I am able, I will check out those programs that Will pointed you to.

I am pretty sure that you can use the free PrimoPDF to combine two PDF files.

I have found that PrimoPDF produces a good PDF and embeds the font (automatically, I think).

I concur with ComicBent. His recommendation of PrimoPDF was my life saver when I had Windows 7 and an older version of Final Draft that didn't save the title page attached to the script PDF. PrimoPDF worked very well, and I think it would work with any graphic image you'd put on a title page. Now that I have Windows 10 and FD10 I don't need PrimoPDF, but I keep the program on my computer if I were to run into situations like yours.
