There's ways around the big budget stuff if you want it bad enough. Later I shot a feature doc for next to nothing. I'm not saying it'll be a blockbuster but it's a good way to get your feet wet and learn filmmaking first hand. I learned so much about the process that impacts my writing today. I also have distributors interested in both, of course it's STV but I'll double what I put into it. Anyway, just thought.

Here's a couple trailers to my low-budget films if interested:

You're a talented guy. Well done on both. Did you cut them?

Thanks! I wouldn't call it talent, just persistence. I didn't edit them, the editors worked for free, real nice guys. If we actually had dough we would have rocked out much better films, but again it's just an option anyone has with a little know how.

          Good luck, op!

What camera did you shoot your western with?

We used the DVX, which by standards 5 years ago was a high-end DV camera (24p). Now it's an old timer

Very admirable that you made two movies already and even have distribution in sight. STV doesn't mean anything bad anymore. There's an interesting article in Moviemaker this month about the future of independent filmmaking. It's going to lead away from theatrical releases (less and less important) to digital distribution, which just like STV - without the V.

Regarding the Panasonic DVX100, I had one of those myself (the first version, not even the a or b), and sold it in 2004. The 24p mode gave you good images, but the motions were quite choppy.

I'm really curious how it would be to shoot a movie with the Canon 5d MkII. I guess you have seen Vincent Laforet's demo. The image quality is impressive. Just wonder if you can edit that footage in Final Cut Pro/Final Cut Studio 2.
