Google SAG experimental agreement and you'll find a wealth of info.

You can actually call SAG and they'll tell you everything you need to know. Beware of the mountain of paperwork to follow and the most important thing they want from you is proof of insurance...

And don't forget that SAG will foreclose on your film if residuals come due and you are unable to pay them.

          Re: Help! SAG Experimental

I have produced a couple films under SAG Experimental Contract. You can get info from the SAG Indie site at http://www.sagindie.com/contracts/efa.html

The next free Screen Actors Guild Signatory Workshop in Los Angeles and New York is July 14, 2005.

If you want to use SAG actors but do not want to jump through the hoops with SAG you do NOT have to go SAG. You as a producer can use whomever you like whether they are SAG or not. It is the performers responsibility not yours. If you can't afford SAG, just do your project non-union and call it a day.

If you are getting name actors and want to go SAG and plan on distributing your film, and can pay your SAG actors (you don't have to pay the non-union ones) $100 dollars a day go with the Limited Exhibition Agreement not the Experimental Contract. It will save you in the long run.

          Hope this helps.

            Re: Help! SAG Experimental

SAG Indie just announced a new low budget agreement. It's called the Ultra-Low Budget Agreement and it replaces the experimental and something else. Two key benefits are that you don't have to step up payments when you get distribution so the daily rate is $100.00 a day. AND, you can use both SAG and non-SAG actors. The new agreement goes into effect on July 1st but if you've already started something, they might grandfather it.

Doesnt the ULTRA Low budget agreement mean though that you are limited in selling it or distribution???

                Re: Help! SAG Experimental

We shot a Non-Union feature earlier this year. We had originally planned to go SAG LE but after going through the paperwork, decided to abandon the idea. Unless you want to attach a named actor (almost all named actors are SAG), there is absolutely no reason to go SAG. The amount of paperwork and distribution conditions that SAG requires you to comply with, WILL make you go blind. Our biggest deal was the distribution control. With SAG, the actors can re-negotiate their scale based on the level of distribution and unless they sign off on the $$$, NO distributor would touch your project. Do you DD before you decide which route to choose. It can make a HUGE difference when it comes to distribution. The SAG office and the actors will smile and try to convince you otherwise, but once the distributon money comes into play, it WILL become a power struggle!

                Just my 2 cents,

                  Re: Help! SAG Experimental

The SAG Ultra Low Budget Agreement (budgets under $200k) allows you to pay a daily rate $100.00 and NOT have bump-ups if you get distribution. You won't have to renegotiate or pay deferrals (unless you promised them, but with this contract, why would you?) That's a big, big concession. You can also use SAG and NON-SAG actors...another biggie.

AND, you aren't limited in your distribution or screenings.

This takes the place of the SAG Experimental and (I think) the Modified Low Budget so you're going to use it if you're under the limit anyway. Go to sagindie.org and read all about it. It's worth your time.
