Could you please recommend spec scripts, available online, that sold and turned unknown writers into successful professionals? I know it has to glow in the dark, I just want to check how bright.

Re: Specs that launched careers?
Don't know if it's available online -- WB is pretty ruthless when it comes to keeping scripts of their films from download -- but Shane Black's LETHAL WEAPON is probably the most famous spec sale ever to have launched a career.

In honor of dhsteinberg, whose movie Miss Dial came out 2 days ago (sounds like he may possibly be answering questions over on a Business Questions and Advice thread)... pretty sure Slackers really launched his career. As I remember he got offered a day job the day after it sold for 700K. (One of my favorite screenwriter stories.) I believe you can find numerous articles about him and the script, as well as the script itself, pretty readily online.Get busy writin' or get busy dyin'.

The best examples would have to be Shane Black (Lethal Weapon), Russ Gerwith (Inside Man), Michael C. Martin (Brooklyn's Finest) and Diablo Cody (Juno)."A screenwriter is much like being a fire hydrant with a bunch of dogs lined up around it.- -Frank Miller
