If you know the person who was signed at 19, why are you asking if it really happens?

I just found it unbelievable that a manager would sign a teenager for writing. Congrats to the kid.

Why so unbelievable? Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein at 19. Sure, it doesn't happen every day but if you've got it, you've got it. Kudos to the manager for recognizing talent and not being afraid of the age factor.

They tend to sign talented people who write really good scripts. That's not inherently an age-restricted skill.

Signing a manager doesn't mean anything, though.

Maybe that writer wrote something unbelievably great. Maybe they're ridiculously talented, or maybe they just caught lightning in a bottle.

Also a possibility: maybe the manager saw a talented kid who was years away and signed them to lock them up based on the potential. That happens sometimes with young writers, contest winners, etc - they're not necessary "ready" but the manager is optimistic about their future.

Or maybe this manager just really liked that script.

Worrying about somebody else's rep is sort of silly.

I signed with my first manager at 21 and agent at 22.

19 is definitely the youngest I've heard of though.

Age is mostly irrelevant when it comes to what's on the page. As far as trying to navigate the business and understanding how it really worked -- I was extremely naive then -- probably still am...

Talent is talent, at any age.

Your chances of getting signed are probably higher if you're 19 than 50. Sadly.

That's why you never post your age on a script.
