It wouldn't have been a contest--most of the time the title page is removed and a code is assigned, or such other measures to provide for anonymous readings. This happened once before, and when I questioned the enquirer I never heard from them again.

for what it's worth there's nada on this person: no credits or projects in development, no Castle Films corp or LLC in CA (didn't check Ohio!), no domain name registered....

My message used a title I changed at least four years ago. So whatever database they used must be pretty old.

That is unless you go back to the old Castle films of the 50s and 60s that made cheapie comedies and horror films in 8mm and 16mm. I think this guy is bogus.

I think I figured it out. I got the letter, too, and he also used the old name of an old script. And I know one place where I posted a logline for that script several years ago when I was using that name for the script.

It's that company that sends e-mails every few months. The subject line is always, well, in my case, "About your script Memoirs of a Knuckle-Dragger." The email turns out to be an ad for paid services of the company. I don't remember if they do e-queries or coverage or what, but I'm guessing we all took up their offer to post a free logline, and we all get those periodic messages about our scripts. Am I right?

I think this guy is a director (his email address is from a directors' website) looking for a script. I'm guessing he checked out that list of loglines, and he is interested in reading some of our scripts to find one. When he said he was "interested" in my script, I wasn't sure if he meant interested in reading it or producing it. I asked for more info but did not receive it yet.

Joan,

The e-mail is from a site that lets you attach whatever domain you want from their selections--not necessarily a director's site per se.

That's interesting, Pike. Did you or anybody else post a logline somewhere and pretty much forgot about it several years ago, except for those periodic advertising e-mails?

Joan,

I sent him an email that I had a meeting until 10:30 am this morning and would be available for him to call me to discuss the project further after that time...

...nada since.

Joan,

I did at Venice Arts. That's the only place I can think of.

Or Zoetrope.
