The bit in post 1 about hoping you get a pass from a studio and then getting the pass four pages later with a sad-face emoticon. I was tempted to type

Congratulations?

Ouch.
The proverbial brown stuff happens. Move on.

I've had a pass from every major studio out there. All I could think was 'Woah! I got my stuff read by every major studio out there.'

It's just how you look at this. It's just rungs of the ladder. Now you got a pass from Paramount. Next you get a pass, but a meeting set up. Or whatever.

The way I look at it is everything happening now is more than was happening two years ago. That way everything that happens, no matter how small, feels like progress. And it stops you smearing the proverbial brown stuff up the walls.

Well it's not like i didn't want it to sell. It's just that, even my agent ( who shall remain nameless ) tells me there's a "market" for certain films and that certain subjects are "unsellable" which I don't believe for a second. I think that's cowardly and indicative of non-creativity. I'm shocked so many people basically come out and tell me "Oh we can't do that type of film"

Always "we can't". When did we become such a society of simpering failures afraid to take risks?

When people realized their jobs depended on the choices they made. Low risk, high reward = high probability of "yes." High risk, low reward = low probability of "yes."

It's a business like any other.

(Sorry about the pass though.)

You know, sometimes "we can't" actually means "we don't want to." If you delude yourself into believing that every pass on your material is actually because of fear of making a movie that colors outside the lines, then you are going to end up down a pretty difficult path. Paramount made Rango, I would call that a creative risk.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I hope you'll keep writing, because that's what you really enjoy doing, all the other bullshit aside.

Best of.
