And from what I can tell, they just threw bucks at SQUID AND THE WHALE and really had no creative input into the production.

Hey... if you're a filmmaker (like Noah Baumbach is), that sounds like a dream come true.

Anyone hear anything from them after submitting a script? I'm still waiting.

I'm curious to learn a bit more about ALP. Does anyone have any more info about them? As others have said in this thread, they don't seem to have very many productions for how long they've been around. However, since I'm NYC based, it'd be great to have my screenplay produced by a company in the city.

They seem pretty legit to me. One of their documentaries premiered at Sundance, and the three projects in development include one by the director of TAKEN, one by the writer of THE TOWN, and another by the director of SHOP GIRL and LEAP YEAR, who was also the producer of GIRL WITH PEARL EARRING.

They liked one of my scripts but passed and asked to read another. I don't think it's up their alley but you never know.

Thanks for sharing this info.

I did some more research after posting and the company definitely has some new projects in the works. And one of the partners has worked at Groundswell.

So I guess they're just searching for good projects. Hopefully they'll be interested in mine! Congrats on getting a read.

I pitched ALP director of development Anu Valia about an hour or two ago and she just replied. She was extremely considerate (not to mention fast!). She said my story sounded interesting and original, but passed on reading my screenplay because they've changed their focus at the company. She said they're not really interested in independent dramas and are focusing on more commercial projects.

Just thought I'd share this info so that others can know what they're interested in.

That's sort of what I figured based on the list of projects in development. No way in hell they're gonna go for my micro indie, ha.
