Which reminds me, I saw the documentray Jodorowsky's Dune at the London Film Festival the other night, which shows the Fando y Lis director's attempts to film Dune in the mid-70's... After hiring most of the future Alien visual crew, plus Salvador Dali to act, and Pink Floyd to score, the film fell apart... so it could be the weirdest movie never made... Or a big mess with a cult following like the Lynch version.

I also caught The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears which is a new example of what would fit here.

Bad Boy Bubby is a pretty messed up contribution.

Funny I clicked on the link to add bubby to the thread and it was the first post I saw above me when the thread opened.

Scarecrow, is that the Pachno/Hackman one?

FREAKS is certainly the oddest film made by a major studio during the studio era.

                        Some not so obvious choices:

                        Rocky Horror Picture Show
Dune (even "mainstream" Lynch is weird)
                        Heathers
                        Star Trek: The Motion Picture
                        The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai

ETA: Forgot about Terry Gilliam's catalog. Also forgot Harold & Maude.

Mainstream David Lynch: The Straight Story. Nothing weird about it. Even The Elephant Man isn't a weird movie, at least not that I remember. Now Inland Empire...

That one. Beats every other film on this thread by a factor of 1,000,000,000.
