What gives one manager more power than the next? Don't they all just send them out to x amount of people? Is it that one producer can send it to more people than the other, don't tell me this is all based on personality.
It's the eye of the Tiger, it's the thrill of the fight
Who they represent.
What they've sold.
How well the properties they've sold perform.
Access to high level execs and agents.
Controls valued literary property and other above the line talent.
What they've produced. (If it's a management/production company.)
Etc.
If you are repped by a manager who has a track record of repping clients with hit movies, it adds legitimacy to you as a writer. If a manager makes a phone call to a high level exec and says something is really good and they just discovered the next _____________, the exec takes it seriously. This type of reputation has to be earned.
Wouldn't you want a manager with some serious credibility trying to sell your material? Wouldn't you want a manager with this kind of reputation calling a big agency on your behalf?
* I don't know anything about the manager in this thread. Just answering the question.
