Re: Loving your character too much
It 100% sounds to me that THE WRITER doesn't want to go to a place that your CHARACTER has to go or wants to go. Like when characters do rape, murder, burn their own kids alive in Game of Thrones. Sometimes our stories go to dark places and many writers put themselves in the story and they can't separate that they aren't the person doing those things and it's not your character who you love too much, but it's yourself telling you not to do that. But it's not real life. It's just a dumb story.
You are bringing your real world ethics to your fictional world. Which is fine. You have to write what makes you happy inside. But don't be afraid to write terrible people and be accused of being the same.
A situation I noticed where you can see the writers making all their characters sound like them because they don't want to go there is BILLIONS. Even the bad guys are respectful of Taylor. Come on? In real life they aren't using her pro-nouns when they talk badly about her behind her back. This is an example where the writers said, you know what, in my show, everyone is going to treat her with respect even the bad guys. It's just not realistic. I bump against it. But I respect the choice.
