    Re: Spectre

He'll be back. You gotta remember what a time commitment making a big film like this is. Of course he was burnt out from it all. Who wouldn't be. Slitting wrists with glass sounds like major burnout.

But the money is too good and he's too good in the role to just quite now. One or two more and people will start saying he's better than Connery was.

      Re: Spectre

I enjoyed it. But yeah there were flaws in retrospect. My girlfriend is a big James Bond fan and she enjoyed it.

      Agreed on the romance. Forced.

Agreed on the last act. I heard Spectre referred to as James Bond's greatest hits. And it seemed to play on the notion with the whole Blofeld sequence. It was old school Bond versus Skyfall's ending which resonated much more with me. But all the old ingredients:

Exotic torture device (which did not pay off)
      Q's device paying off.
      Villain survives despite explosion.
      Bond destroys the lair.
      Bond escapes with girl.

Pretty close to classic Bond. But Blofeld isn't killed at the end of this.

I think one thing that's a challenge for these movies is Bond's emotional plight. They give him "emotional intimacy" and they always kill it. Eva Green, Judi Dench's M, and of course countless others. If they play it real like Eva Green's character, we get invested. When we don't get invested with his emotional life, we need something else, a great mystery, a great villain, or the world in the balance.

With Spectre, Blofeld is a stock villain. Madeline Swann is a stock love interest.
I wan't as engaged or invested in this one. Enjoyed the stunt work, especially on the train. The opening was great. And the story did hold my interest, but unlike Skyfall or Casino Royale which kept me thoroughly involved and even with repeat viewings, Spectre is not that kind of Bond film for me.

No one's better than Sir Sean.

Did anyone read the emails from the Sony leak about the movie? Those are mindful emails from execs that do seem to care a lot and are trying to put into words how things can be fixed. It ain't that easy, as we all know.

          SPOILERS

They talked a lot about a twist. I was actually expecting the bad guy to say "No, your parents weren't killed in a skiing accident... I KILLED THEM!" or something. In the end, there was no twist.

What I found most odd was how they almost unanimously agreed the first two acts were good. WHAT?!!! They were boring as heck. So Bond infiltrates the lair, then quickly escapes in a boring car chase? WTF! He should've been captured there. Then maybe tortured or forced to defeat Bautista 1 on 1 or something.
I'm never wrong. Reality is just stubborn.

Figment, thanks for posting that link. So much feedback. No surprise the last act was a bit doomed.
