Re: Emailing vs. Sending Letters / Query help...

Do you think it benefits a screenwriter to read novels or short stories or do you think they should stick to reading other scripts?
Read everything, watch plays etc. Ask yourself why you are drawn into the story, the characters, the dialogue? What compels you to turn the page or not, as the case may be? They are different forms but they have common ingredients. Who knows, maybe you come across a short story that would make a great premise for a film. Also writing in one form enhances the ability to appreciate writing in other forms.

And also, as novel writing and short stories are quite different from screenwriting, why would a screenwriter want someone who reads novels, short stories, or plays to read their work?
      Screenplays are for the illierate.

Because you can learn a tremendous amount about storytelling and, even more importantly, how character can be developed through reading prose fiction.

what Jake said. As a writer, you should be reading all sorts of stories, from all areas.

And even in my primary career as a novelist I watch movies and read (and write) scripts to learn more about story structure.

I rareley read letter queries. Email queries are a lot better, but as I saw from another post, I will read the first paragraph and that is it.
