  • Manager Commission on Scripts & Novels

Hi everyone, thought I'd ask here rather than start a new thread.

Let's say I have three screenplays and two novels. If I get a manager in Hollywood first for the screenplays, will they be entitled to commissions off the novels if I sell those to a publisher? Or are the two realms kept fairly separate in usual manager agreements?

Traditionally, a film lit manager doesn't get a piece of novels. But it's not a bad idea to double-check that understanding between the two of you. Also, don't expect or ask him/her to do any work on the novel's behalf.

Thanks. I was more concerned about whether it would be unnecessarily costly to get a manager while also having a book agent, not about him/her doing any work. I guess this means I can attack both fronts (manager plus book agent) simultaneously.

*side question if anyone sees this: if the novels get adapted into films would the manager receive a cut on that? Just curious.
