Uh, this is not a grammar issue. At least one "grammar authority" can be cited for almost any version and/or use of the ellipsis.
The issue is how this particular software, Final Draft, does its spell-check. FD treats two words joined by any number of periods as a single unit for purposes of spell-checking. And so... [sic (though "sic" is not technically correct here, I trust the implication is clear)]
These will pass spell-check:
you and... that other guy
you and.... that other guy
you and.......................... that other guy
you and ... that other guy
These will not pass spell-check:
you and...that other guy
you and....that other guy
you and.that other guy
Now, if only FD would do spell-check (and search/replace) within text formatted as "Dual Dialogue"...
