Re: James Bond 23...a disaster in the making?

The problem with the action scenes in Quantum Solace isn't in the camerawork, staging or writing. All of those are well done. It doesn't really even have that much shakycam.

The action scenes are incoherent because they have been edited disastrously bad. They are way too often just series of 6-12 frame shots. A 1-second shot is a luxury in that film.

Director decides how a film is edited (And producers as well).

It's not too uncommon that directors andeditors get blinded to their work, and they start editing faster and faster - They know what the shots contain, so it's easier for them to follow the action. But that's why you show your cut to other people, and there are also other tricks in the book to avoid this (Occasionally playing your scenes as mirror-images helps you to watch them with fresh eyes).

Even the drama scenes in the film are generally edited waaaaayyy too fast.

If the film would have been 10 minutes longer, it would have felt much shorter than it felt now.

It's still hard for me to believe that they screwed up the film so bad in post. There is a good action film in there somewhere, it just needs a major re-edit.

They should do a whole Bond movie of him just drinking at a bar remembering everyone he's known who has died and sobbing uncontrollably and be done with it.

Bond films used to be about the gizmos for me. Last couple didn't have much of that. I've got two words for future Bond writers. Think "Concealed Weapons."

Also, better henchmen. That guy in QOS with the German National Haircut looked like a roadie for AUTOBAHN.

both bad guys were pretty laughable. the guy with the bad haircut and bad accent you mentioned as well as the general who the chick was trying to kill.

not to back track on casino royale, but that opening scene was AWESOME in my opinion.
