  • The Big Stone Grid

Has anyone read this? What were your thoughts? Would be good to get a discussion going.
It's the eye of the Tiger, it's the thrill of the fight

    Re: The Big Stone Grid

I just finished it this weekend. I couldn't put it down and can't stop thinking about it.

I didn't like that it verged on torture porn, but that's a taste thing, for me. I thought it was really, really well done.

i tried reading it three times, can't get past page twenty-five. i thought the characters were cliche, the story was generic/low concept and prose overwritten. ive found much better writing on any police procedural currently on air. very surprised this sold.

I would of said the same thing at page 25, but after I finished it I understood.

Seems to be considerable negative reation to this one. Remarks to the effect it sold because the writer is "in" Not read it myself, but lucky bloody "in" him!

Haven't read it, but if this script is anything like The Brigands of Rattleborge then I'm glad. That screenplay was not just overrated IMO, but one of the worst Black List scripts I've ever read. I still have trouble understanding what people saw in it...

                Re: The Big Stone Grid

I liked it better than Brigands.

I agree that the descriptions are over-written, but the story and characters really worked for me.

Good for the writer. He's got a distinctive voice in a world of mediocrity and deserves the win.

I'm happy for the writer. I think his Western was great. But this... Interesting. I'm on pg. 65, but am struggling to finish. It feels overwritten. Hmm.. I'll finish it tonight. Hope there is some amazing twist.

Has anyone read his other script RawKnuckles, or can at least tell me what it is about. (Couldn't find **** on google)

Looks like Michael Mann is back on the cop beat with his attachment to this.

Definitely an interesting choice, though I don't know about moving it to LA. It thought it benefitted from the metropolis-type setting: claustrophobic, dark, rainy.

Seems it has a chance of beating Brigands of Rattleborge to the screen.

What did you think of Brigands? I enjoyed it -- very well-written -- but didn't connect with the characters like I did in The Big Stone Grid. Probably had to do with the first half of the film setting up the town, rather than our protagonists.

The end was shocking enough to be remembered, but I didn't feel like it held together quite as well as BSG.

Would love to hear your thoughts.
