*I addressed the inflated value of winning, but that has no bearing on the other issues.
Okay... sorry I missed your point.

      Loglines for finalists are up.

Lots of female writers this time. And period films.

The logline for "Marlene the Divine" cracked me up.

Yes, I know some finalist peeps who've already gotten some excellent opportunities. Don't think they wasted $ on the feedback, though. #Crapshoot.

The only logline that sounds enticing is "Alone." I'm sure the others are well written scripts, but I can't imagine a feature film among that group. Good luck to the finalists!

It's good to see more women in the running. Sucks I wasn't one of them this year . . . (again). Know what it is? When you're a semi-finalist, every single phone call after September 1 sounds just like Greg Beal. Even my mom. That's my only complaint with Nicholl.

Congratulations to all. You did well.

That also struck me as odd. It's like they're anti-loglines -- a one sentence summary to bore a reader to death. At least they're well-written scripts. Some could be made on a $50,000 budget or less.

Only one of these I have read is Death Of An Ortolan, and I can tell you it is well deserving of the award.

List of the winners -- good luck to them moving forward:

Probably same reason a sci-fi never won best picture. In good sci-fi, you need like 50% story world / 50% character depth. In dramas you need like 10% story world / 90% character. It's obvious why dramas always win.

However, even as a sci-fi/action writer, I absolutely think Spotlight should have beat out Mad Max for Best picture. By like 10 to 1.

I've heard the same thing about this script. Congratulations to the winners and the finalists.

Greg, it says in the rules for the Fellowship that writers who have not earned more than $25,000 writing fictional work for film or television qualify. I'm wondering does that apply only to money received for work in the US film industry or globally?

I ask because I'm trying to get something going in my domestic film industry (I'm from Europe), so if I were to be paid more than $25,000 for work done here, would that disqualify me?
