Default Average turnaround time?

Hi all,

I've just started my first ever round of queries direct to production co's. I want to wait a while to judge whether my query style/logline etc are working well or not before sending out the next batch, so roughly how long should I leave it before concluding I've received a Gertrude (brush off)?

I'm guessing about a month, does this sound right?

Thanks

Does to me. Not even sure you need to wait that long.

I've had reply times ranging from three hours to three months - So why wait at all? If you're confident in your logline, I say keep going till someone bites.

Not to hijack Lord_Mandrake's post, but how long do you folks typically wait before sending the same company/person another query? Particularily if you never heard back from them?

Me? One month. I try my best to find (at least) two devt execs in the same company, then I alternate so it becomes two months between pitches. Done Deal Pro's database commonly lists two+.

And in such cases, occasionally, but only very rarely, I might rehash one of the execs with a query that I'd sent the "other" exec a few months back. You never know when you might reach one with a topic that s/he likes, but would have been missed!

The few times I tried doing query/logline, I found the response time to be either right away (within 30 minutes) or never. Nothing really in between.

This is generally true, although once I got a request six months after I sent the query.

I wouldn't have believed this, but several weeks ago I got a bite from a query that went out in October.

Hmm, and I guess it's time to follow-up with them, since the response to that will probably take 6 months!

I wonder if it's the same person? 'cuz I, too just got a response from a query I had sent off sometime in Oct.

I had one where it almost took a year after the query.
