Default Send Follow-Up or Wait?

I was referred for a staff job and Iíve been in contact with the network (cable) person, who told me theyíd like to meet with me. Itís been a month since that email and I followed up with them two weeks ago to see if they were still interested in meeting. They answered back with a yes very quickly, but told me their assistant would follow up with a time to meet. That still hasnít happened. Should I follow up with the assistant or wait?

Definitely follow up with the assistant. Don't be a pest, of course; but it's possible the assistant forgot. It's easy to get overwhelmed with a lot going on.

As a general rule of thumb, I work off of the two week check-in. 'Hey, it's been a couple of weeks, thought I'd follow up." Try that a couple of times. Then maybe once more a month after that, for example. Then let it go (pretty much unless they owe you money).

Though at some point soon, you could send one last note to the exec saying, "Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet but hopefully there will be another opportunity down the road." Something simple like that, which lets them know nothing was set up by the assistant, but you're still out there if they ever want to talk. Then it's up to them to make a move from there.

If they truly want and "need" to meet, they will almost certainly do so.
