Primer was great for a $70,000 movie and all... but putting it in a list with 2 of Kubrick's masterpieces... no.

That figure needs a WEE bit of adjustment: $7,000.

              The Terminator
              Terminator 2
              Wall-E

              The Thing
              Spiderman 2
eek! I remember HATING this movie when I saw it in theater with a buddy of mine. We were literally looking at each other like "WTF are we watching?!"

The whole thing was just one big emo-fest. Almost no action. In the end, Doc-Ock, who has the power of the SUN (the f*cking sun!) in his hands, DECIDES not be a baddie anymore, and commits suicide by falling into the river.

Sun + river = apocalypse, no?

When they drowned the fusion machine at the bottom of the river (while the machine was still on), that's when I said, "this has to be one of the most nonsensical movies I've ever seen."

Then in Spiderman 3, Raimi only upped the amount of crying and nonsense. All of a sudden, it's: "why's everyone crying?! why doesn't this plot make sense? How come Spiderman's dancing? Raimi, you came out of nowhere with this!"

actually, he didn't. All that sh*t was present in Spiderman 2. And it made tons of money. That's why it was put in Spidey 3.

                Re: Top Ten Sci Fi?

Unequivocal--but unranked--list of the greatest science-fiction films of all time:

                1) 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
                2) ALIEN
                3) BLADE RUNNER
                4) TERMINATOR
                5) TERMINATOR 2
                6) JURASSIC PARK
                7) THE MATRIX
                8) BACK TO THE FUTURE
                9) CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND
                10) And, finally, Frank Herbert's DUNE for what should have been and what might yet be. One day...

Honorable mention goes to ALIENS, mostly because it's my favorite geek pleasure of all time. Most of the great sci-fi concepts in the ALIEN universe were introduced in the first film, but ALIENS is so brilliant that it's been aped far more times than ALIEN in the sci-fi action genre.

PS: STAR WARS is fantasy, not science fiction. Trust me, I shot first.
Reaction time is a factor, so please pay attention.

Distopian futures are sci-fi too, no matter if the actual science involved in the story isn't much.

Speaking of distopian futures, does anybody know of a good screen adaptation of Huxley's Brave New World?

It's been done a couple of times.

Not sure that Brave New World would really work today. It's a dated classic.

                            - Dark City
                            - The Matrix
                            - Akira
                            - District 13
                            - Predator
                            - Total Recall
                            - Starship Troopers
                            - Natural City

                            - Bad Taste
                            - Free Jack (for great justice!)
                            - Alien Vs. Ninja
                            - Kairo/Pulse

                            - The Wrath of Kahn
                            - Superman 2 (this is sci-fias he's an alien, right?)
                            - Drive (only THE BEST American kung fu film ever)
                            - Demolition Man
                            - Equlibrium
                            - The Incredibles

                            I know, I know, I know - a lot more than 10.
These films I took a lot of enjoyment from and are well worth viewing.
