Default Indie Vs Major

Although I've not finalized my script, and I'm still working on different loglines and titles - I'm wondering if its better to go the Indie or Major route when it comes to Production Companies?

I feel that my screenplay could go either way.

It could easily see it being made on a shoe-string budget from anywhere between $750,000 - $3,000,000 (it could even be less, however location shots take place across three different continents)

I can also see it go through a Major studio, with an A-list cast attached and the film be made anywhere from $8,000,000 onwards.

I'm beginning to compile a list of companies who I will query once I am ready. At the moment I'm focussing on the Indie side of things, but should I be branching out more? What direction would you fine people take?

Why not query managers/agents as well?

I have been looking into that as well. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on what comes first (chicken or the egg sort of thing / agent or the production company).

I was orginally thinking just querying managers and agents, but I literally had no idea where to begin.

I wasn't sure whether I should just try and jump the middle man when I am leaning more towards the more independant end of the production company scale.

Most query success stories seem to come from querying managers, but I have definitely heard ones that revolve around agents and production companies, as well.

Do some research first, just to make sure they're legit, and then query everyone. EVERYONE.
