Yeah, that stuff is there if you want to find it. Predator also works as Vietnam allegory (American might negated by superior tactics and a jungle-dwelling foe on home turf), sexual politics (Predator unmasked resembles a vagina with tusks), and a deconstruction of the action-hero persona (only primal Arnie - stripped of quips, weapons, tech, and cool can take down the beast). It's got a lot more layers than people often give it credit for.

Yeah. If I look for something in a film, I'll find it.. But that doesn't mean it was consciously placed there by the makers off the film. People find ET shaped cereal for farks sake. And that jesus cornflake. Yep, I'm sure the biblical son didn't have a handshake deal with Kelloggs...

Anyway, I love this film. Rewatch it. When Predator removes his/her mask and beats up Dutch, tell me you don't hear a child whimpering as he is chased (while in Predator's POV ). Takes the film to a much darker level.

The deleted scene where Dutch has anal sex with The Predator could suggest some gay overtones but I'm not entirely convinced....

On a more serious note, the notion "the Predator represents a pure homosexual archetype" is absurd. The Predator has no sexual desire, it doesn't molest its prey, it kills them for sport, as a trophy. For there to be any homosexual subtext, the Predator has to have a sexual agenda, and that is not the case. It's doubtful the Predator can even distinguish between male and female human beings, they're just prey, period. You cannot reinvent a film's plot to justify some meaning that isn't there. That article is moronic or just a piss-take (as we say in the UK).

And I have no idea what "exegesis" means but it sounds as daft as that article.

Umm .. a parody of a subject doesn't actually prove anything about that subject.

You guys do all realise that it's a joke .. right?

This article was dumb and boring. Couldn't finish it.

                        Well, I'm convinced.

I'm convinced Roger Avary can write brilliant dialogue.

The Predator piece was pretty funny, but no more "out there" (yuk yuk!)than a DEAD SERIOUS Freudian analysis of Moby Dick, which posited the white whale as a giant swimming female breast and Ahab's missing leg as a castration metaphor.

My fault for not reading the entire thing.

However, I've read enough psychoanalytical "critiques" of things to recognize that the parody was pretty spot on in its portrayal.

Freudian psychs project way too much.
