Same answer as Sci-Fi Channel: their original movies are made by production companies that have a deal with them. So watch the credits.

Weird stuff - Lifetime is trying to skew younger (20s and early 30s) and looking into different genres. The issues movies are not priorities, now - they get fewer viewers and have no after market and *cost more* because they tend to be more star driven.

Because of the way Lifetime funds, the movies are made on the cheap. Lifetime puts up only $700k of the production cost for an original movie. (Sci-Fi puts up $750k). The production company matches that in exchange for DVD & foreign. Problem is - these films have little life in those venues (unless they're exploitable as genre flicks). Because of the cost issues, they want something that can be shot in Canada, with limited locations and limited cast members. Obviously not much in the way of stunts & FX & anything else that's expensive (weeather, kids, animals).

They also are kind of weird about some things - I have a script that takes place in an apartment building that they have almost made a handful of times... but they don't like the apartment aspect. They'd rather the couple live in a single family suburban home. I guess viewers would switch channels if they saw people living in apartments. They know their demographics and want the scripts to match.

Thanks Bill for that info. I am a big fan of Lifetime and now that
you mention it I seldom see an apartment based film.

Interesting about them targeting the younger crowd. They have been
doing quite a few teen flicks lately. The one with Raven Symone, and
another that just came on about a girl trapped in a boys body.
