Default Amazon Studios - November 2015 Update

Looks like Amazon Studios just changed their submission policy. The 45-day free option is gone. WGA members can submit via the website. If they want your script, they'll make you an offer.

For what it's worth, this is from email I received today:

Amazon will no longer require an unpaid 45-day option for you to submit your work and will instead review your work with no strings attached. If we’re interested, we will reach out to you directly with a paid option that meets or exceeds any applicable guild minimums.

As a result of this change in policy, Amazon is releasing any unpaid option currently in effect on work you’ve submitted for Freedom Fort. You can continue to track where your work is in our evaluation process by visiting your project page.

We are continuing to evaluate any material that is not yet marked “Complete.” You’ll receive a notification either way when our evaluation is complete.

Thank you again for the opportunity to consider your work, and we hope to see you at Amazon Studios again soon.

Sincerely,
Amazon Studios Cast and Crew

Also, they're now accepting drama series uploads.

I wonder why they bothered changing it? It kind of seemed like things were dead from user submission standpoint. Interesting.

What's the difference from their old policy?

They had a policy that if you submit anything to them, they had a 45-day window to option it for $10k for a year, and then keep it optioned provided they pay you $10k / year. And you couldn't get out of it.

I'm pretty sure this turned off quite a few pros from submitting. By removing the 45-day auto-option policy, I expect they hope they'll attract pros to submit.

Now they no longer have the right to option it automatically and they'll make an offer for the script if they like it.

(They also removed the 45-day window to do anything, so scripts are getting passed on in a matter of days if not hours from submission - which is a good thing)

I get the impression they want TV stuff and indie Oscar-bait. I wouldn't waste time on high concept, or large commercial pics with them.
