If you haven't seen this brazilian movie, do so.
I found the fractured narrative to be effective at building the story. The acting was excellent and I felt that I could have followed the movie without the benifits of subtitles. and excellent movie about poverty, violence, and drugs. |

Yeah, incredibly raw in its depiction of emotion and the lack of it in some of the characters.

Brilliant piece of filmmaking. Heads and shoulders above the director's follow-up, THE CONSTANT GARDENER....

Agree absolutely. It's very powerful, it puts you in what seems like a whole different world. Gritty, naked violence of poverty and despair, very great. What everyone's saying: see it.

I saw it as part of a double feature with "Kill Bill". Perfect contrast of how the same level of extreme violence can be absolutely essential and meaningful or absolutely gratituitous and pointless.
I agree, City of God is one of my all-time favorite movies. |

City of God was great... i don't see what was OScar worthy about 'The Constant Gradner' though. It must be the controversial = oscar mentality.

This is in my top ten films of all time. Brilliant film. Fernando Meirelles is a genius.
