Default Final Draft 6 on Windows Vista - Yes? No?

I'm shopping for a new PC this weekend and the best deals come with Windows Vista.

I want to download FD6 onto it (I never used the second FD alloted download) but I wanted to check if it will work.

Has anyone downloaded F6 on Vista? Problems? Etc?

I went to the FD website FAQ's and this is all they could offer:

As of April 2007 we haven't tested Final Draft Version 6 on Vista. FD6 (released in February 2002) was engineered for Windows 98/ME and may very well have problems on this far more advanced operating system. All of our testing time and effort has been allocated to our current product, Final Draft 7; when we've completed enough testing of FD7, we'll begin testing FD6.

As for whether FD6 will run on Vista, so far we've had no reports of any program-critical problems but should you encounter and report an issue that appears to be caused by incompatibility between the software and the operating system, we would certainly investigate and try to come up with a workaround. We won't be building any updates to make FD6 more compatible with Vista but we'll do our best to get it running.

Thanks in advance.

My writing partner has Windows Vista, and his old version of FD seems to work fine.

Thanks Joan.

I actually went ahead, bought the PC & loaded FD6.

The only glitch is -- I have to put the FD disc in each time I open it even though it's saved to the hard drive.

I attempted to authorize it online as the prompt requested but online authorization failed.

Perhaps it's because my code number is a couple years old?

So now I have to call and get a new code via phone. But otherwise it's running fine.

Already loaded finished screenplays onto it from backup discs.

Thanks again!

SC,

I don't think it's a Vista issue.

I cannot remember for sure, but I think Final Draft only allows one active installation at a time. If I am right, they want you to "deauthorize" the one installation before installing again. Maybe I am wrong about that, or maybe that was only for FD 7.

In any case, a telephone call to them will probably straighten out the whole thing.

Enjoy your new computer. Comic's idea of calling FD sounds like the right solution.

I think you can authroize it on two computers, or use two autorizations on one computer.

I did this with mine. But I got a virus which corrupted some file that dealt with the authorization process, so when I got my new computer and tried to unauthorize my old computer I couldn't do it. I had to use the CD every time I wanted to use FD.
