As someone who grew up in the town of Woodstock which inspired the concert, I think they couldn't have picked a more uninspiring story.

I have one question: why?
I have a second question: who's going to go see this? For those of us who actually attended the original festival (or, in my case, had a ticket, but skipped it because I met a girl and fell in love--long story short, it lasted eighteen months and she went off and married someone else), or who were there in spirit, we can just as easily rent the documentary . And for those born after 1969, are you really interested in why and how this thing came together? |

The movie had its moments but was, overall, rather disappointing.
Very interesting role for Liev Schreiber. Anyone else see it? What did you think?

the documentary and the documentary on the documentary done by Vh1 were good enough.
there's no way you can reenact Canned Heat's performance.

yup. i was reminded of that when he did the rolling stones doc coupla years ago and THE LAST WALTZ. but his movies are filled with tons of music from that era so it makes sense.

If you want to see a really good film that takes place during Woodstock -- and features a great sequence at Woodstock (although most of the film takes place in the Catskills) -- check out A Walk on the Moon with Diane Lane, Viggo Mortensen and Liev Shreiber.

And Scorsese also did "Shine a Light", the Stones's concert documentary. But "The Last Waltz" may be the greatest rock concert documentary ever made.
