Default Dreams about Characters

I'm wondering if anyone else has this happen. Usually about halfway through a script I start having dreams about my characters, like they are real people. We chit chat, sometimes I just see them, I've even had a character tell me he didn't like one of the other characters! Well, he wasn't supposed to..

So please tell me someone else experiences stuff like this or I may be slipping the surly bonds of reality...

I do it all the time when I'm working on a book. Actually, the book I just finished and that's currently making the rounds was completely dreamed up--plot, characters and even the title (which I changed) years ago.

I dreamt an entire action sequence using some over-the-top wild stuff that has never been seen on film yet, which I am currently working on -- so if it goes anywhere I can thank my ID as a co-writer

I am not sure if I have had particular dreams of characters, what I experience is more like becoming certain characters. Like, projecting who and what they are. And also, I've met a couple of new people in real life when I was writing on a story, and they were almost identical to the character(s).

For instance, I wrote a story about this man who just got out of prison and went to see his girlfriend who was now not interested in him anymore. She had a new guy. And this guy from prison becomes obsessed/jealous and then goes and kills her. And like this guy I met in real life, he looked exactly like what I had visioned my character like, (even had the same first name) and he told me first time we met that he just got out of prison, and hated his ex-girlfriend, and that he wanted me to kill her. OMG!!! I did not know this person whatsoever. Nor do we have any more contact of course. But hello, to me, this was strange since I was writing a story about this.
Wow! that in itself is quite a story! I think I'm inclined to suggest that you be more careful of what you write about! There has to be a good story in there somewhere....

Okay, well I'm relieved to know that either I'm not kookoo, or that I'm not the only one that is!

Wow, you guys and girl (Anita) are always working. This is a very interesting thread.

Hemingway once said he refilled his well of ideas everynight, but you all take that to another level. That's so cool! I wish I could say I do the same, but either I don't or I can't remember them.

Weird question, Tom72...

Did you used to post as TomDe72 (or something like that)?

I've always wished I could dream stuff up to help my stories but I hardly ever do, honestly I don't think I have.

I had this dream where Chip C and me were in a Nazi death camp and he was showing me this painting... kept saying 'dude, your gonna get us killed' ... and I was trying to explain how I'm not jewish, but a freemason... didn't help.

Then, Victor Hugo appears and told me how James joyce isn't gay, but liked afghanis - didn't like chip's painting either.

strange days indeed
