I was looking around at the EEOC, the federal agency that enforces civil rights laws, and I found something interesting.
http://www.eeoc.gov/ Any employer in ANY industry that hires more than 15 people is bound by the EEOC laws. And under said laws, a company cannot have a recruitment process that disproportionately excludes people on the basis of race, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability. Unfortunately, the insane requirement that the big agencies have towards people getting industry referral totally disproprotionately blocks out people across all categories, and is illegal. So along those lines, I filed a complaint, the EEOC took it, and is investigating a couple of the big three. If any of you have your own grievances, feel free to contact the EEOC and let's push to reform the industry. These people are not goods, and they have to follow the law just like any other industry. |

Is this an Andy Kaufman/Joaquin Phoenix type gag?

Laws like that will probably be found unconstitutional some day, but that day is still a long way away.
If anybody who meets their requirements can apply, then end of story. If some sort of experience must be demonstrated by a letter of referral, that is not discriminatory against anybody but those not meeting that requirement. At the end of the day, private businesses can still hire whomever they want. They are in business for their own pleasure and profit, not for social engineering schemes. The owners, shareholders and/or partners have their investment at risk and should be free to run things however they want. Equal opportunity does not mean equal outcomes. |

Roger...brilliant response!
NYNEX...let say your actions are successful, do you really believe that they will somehow help you in your career? Or is this a pissed of bitch slap against the biggies for not giving you the love you think you deserve? |

This is probably the dumbest post I've seen in four years of coming to this site.
#1 You're not seeking to be an employee of the agency. You want them to represent you. #2 They certainly can discriminate against you if your writing sucks! It's called PASSING.

Creators of inferior or non commercial screenplays are not a protected class.
Tell me you were very drunk when you wrote this. I find that more belieavable than I do your post on its own. |
